irish snow & dangers - safety advice

please everyone in uk and ireland be careful in the snow & ice. we are not used to this so are generally unprepared. here is my own list of safeguards;

a) Don't go out if you don't absolutely need to
b) if you go out tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back
d) carry a fULLY charged mobile phone
e) dress up warmly, even bring an extra jumper or jacket in case of getting stuck
f) if possible carry food and hot flask
g) carry all medicine you may need if you get stuck
h) carry identification in case it is needed and contact person's details (especially elderly)
e) ensure pets at home have plenty of food & water and have phone number of neighbour if you become stuck
f) carry plently of fuel for car.
g) Do not drive unless absolutely necessary
h) check on all elderly or disabled neighbours.
i)check their fridges and bedrooms for food and warm beds, and homes for heating. many are afraid to put on heaters because of the bills.they may not be dressed well so scarfs, hats and gloves indoors might be needed. elderly people do not have enough 'fat' cover.
j) invite them into your home if meals on wheels or carers cannot visit them
k) wear proper shoes.
l) don't be foolish and rides bikes!
m) don't go out if you use crutches, sticks, rollators, or walking aids. they get wet and returning to wood floors they slip alarmingly. or failing that dry the rubber tips well.
o) shopkeepers, hospitals schools, dry all floor suraces from wet shoes. some may slip.dripping brollies.
p) if you go out in afternoon ensure you plan how to get home in evening when it is dark and freezing. buses and taxi's may be off the road.
q) salt or sand any footpaths in front of your shop or house. if we all did this life would be easier.

At the end of the day your safety is in your hands and so is the safety of elderly or ill and disabled family , neighbours and friends who may be less able to safeguard themselves who live beside you.

don't let anyone die because you didn't care.
