A site to discuss clergy sexual abuse of children and adult women. I founded MACSAS - UK. I live in Ireland. I was raped by an Anglican priest in the 1980's in the UK.. I later discovered he'd molested many other young adult students. My 2009 PhD was entitled 'The well from which we drink is poisoned - Clergy Sexual Exploitation of adult women'. my other blog discusses abuse of disabled children, disability rights: http://drragingwheels.bogspot.com

The Meeting of Safeguarding Professionals with Pope Benedict XVI / Press Releases 2010 / Press Releases / Media Centre / Catholic Church / Root - The Catholic Church for England and Wales
I find this write up of the papal meeting with the england & wales 'saeguarding team' with the pope interesting. three people are named (all men), no 'ordinary' people are named e.g. parish representatives, the woman in the picture is not named...
does this tell us anything?
Please note Bill kilgallon to the left of picture seated is the guy who sarcastically said that the survivors who met the Pope had longer than the prime minister. it was he who arranged the meeting but did not allow MACSAS survivors(who wanted to meet the pope) publically to give the 'survivors testamount' to the him. so HE gets to see Pope but we don't
bill kilgallon is also a laicised priest. he was a priest for 7 years in leeds, left to get married. he was in the same seminary class as the Archbishop of westminster...i.e. they're 'buddies' .
keep it in the family.

Keep it in the family
Just discovered that Bill Kilgallon, head of Child protection in catholic church was a priest for 7 years. Also was in the same seminary class as Archbishop vincent nichols. Now isn't that cozy indeed.
he won't want to put Nichols in the soup would he. So much for transparancy & independence!
why did i not spot this before.

a poem of regret
The Pope
the pope has come...
and gone
and left a legacy of
disappointment
sadness
anger
and pain
for those who suffered
at his brothers hands
knowingly
oh yes
knowingly
we know
those of us betrayed
forsaken
forgotten
and
still alive
we know too well
that his brothers
failed to protect us
failed to shelter us
failed to nurture our
spirit
our lives
our minds
our bodies
and our souls
for this Big brother is responsible
no yellow and white waving flags
of squealing children
grown ups
teenagers or priests
with joy and delight
can hide the hurt we feel
whenever a smile we saw
we remembered the pain
for every flag we saw
we cringed
at the hypocrisy
of faithful people
who shouted at us
roard at us
jossled us
harranged us
and vilified us
as we gathered together as survivors
as sisters and brothers of a family
of hurt people
just to ask
the pope
why come
at all?

the pope's visit to uk
difficult to know how i feel after a week of frustration, anger and sheer hard work to represent survivors of clergy sexual abuse in the uk. The Catholic Church would not allow us to give our book to Pope. in fact we tried at westminster abbey only to be verbally attacked, jossled, and jeered.
