`I've something horrendous to tell' - Analysis, Opinion - Independent.ie
An old report but this is what put in train the awful inquiry into the Brothers of Charity Galway. The report came out as the HSE 'McCoy Report'. It was never a statutory inquiry though I believe it should have been. In my view McCoy did a lousy job! yes, told the story but never called to account.
We have here one of the worst sex offenders in Ireland yet because the victims were all learning disabled they were not 'honoured' with a proper inquiry.
I'm still fighting for one
A site to discuss clergy sexual abuse of children and adult women. I founded MACSAS - UK. I live in Ireland. I was raped by an Anglican priest in the 1980's in the UK.. I later discovered he'd molested many other young adult students. My 2009 PhD was entitled 'The well from which we drink is poisoned - Clergy Sexual Exploitation of adult women'. my other blog discusses abuse of disabled children, disability rights: http://drragingwheels.bogspot.com

Archbishop Martin of Dublin snubbed from Vatican abuse symposium - Vatican Insider

this is disgraceful. Archbishop Martin has done more than any Bishop to combat sexual abuse. though he still has 'problems' in my view, he does not deserve this snub.

So what did HE do about the woman and child? abandon them? This is abuse/exploitation. You cannot have it both ways. Pretend to be celibate when clearly he was/is not!

The quiet storm over Bishop Zavala and his family
The quiet storm over Bishop Zavala and his family
So no-one is interested to find out how this man TREATED the mother of his children? No one interested in his duplicity? hypocrisy?
was he exploiting the woman? how did she meet him?
so many questions need answering and no-one wants to open this case to the wind. of course the children need to be protected but not this bishop.

The Tablet - Baroness Scotland resigns from church safeguarding job
Not a day too soon! She achieved nothing. was completely 'out of her depth' and at the end could not admit her failure of leadership in this very important role and job. that she resigns due to the 'pressure' of her other roles clearly tells us she should never have agreed to take the job. please god her sucessor will be just a tad more responsible, skilled and of a quality to effect change. certainly cannot be as bad as their predecessor!

Mary Raftery R.I.P
A good woman, ney, a GREAT woman. Who can truly say they changed a Nation? A Church? a Society? This woman did and now she has gone. Dead.
The word is so awful, painful, harrowing and final.
Iknew Mary Raftery, I met her several times, I spoke to her on the phone lots, I admired her, respected her, trusted her and in my sense of defeat (at times) I knew Mary was never defeated and would never be defeated. and she wasn't , at least not in her dogged determination to uncover evil in the Church and State of Ireland. She finished her task, she ran the race and she won.
She changed the face of politics, church and state, of child protection, mental health and so much more.
She could not boil an egg, garden and dressed like a 'streat urchin' (said at her funeral) but she played the cello, wrote plays, directed films, wrote books and was one of the finest investigative journalists Ireland has produced in over 25 years.
she left a son and husband in grief. survivors of abuse lost and alone, a nation changed, a church humiliated, children better protected, secrets outed, and abusers named.
In other words she won. She was not defeated.
But ultimately cancer would defeat her, as it does to oh too many. At 54 she was too young to die. but she died much loved by many. respected by many, and will be remembered by many.
We owe a great deal to Mary Raftery. Never forget her.

Clinic shuts its doors to sex-abuse priests - News - The Independent
Clinic shuts its doors to sex-abuse priests - News - The Independent
an old newspaper report but interesting. we never got the results of this 'visitation' and even today we survivors want to know how this centre operated and why so many 'treated' clergy sex offenders from this place were sent back into ministry and re-offended.
not too late to ask these questions
