Anglican Bishop of Grafton quits over 'failings' in child abuse complaints

A statement on behalf of the Anglican Diocese of Grafton says it commends Bishop Slater for his ''honest acknowledgement of mistakes'' and affirm him in his ''generosity and courage'' in resigning

Not entirely sure why the Bishop has 'generosity and courage'.  That's not what he's doing here.  He acknowledges he failed CHILDREN.  These were NOT 'mistakes' and every time a Church calls failure in 'duty of care' 'mistakes', they deny they have a moral and legal duty to report sex offenders.  Every time the word 'mistake' is used they belittle the offence, downgrade it to a 'minor' when it is a MAJOR criminal offence we are discussing.  The ignoring of the rape, buggery, sexual assaults of CHILDREN by clergymen is not a 'mistake'...it is complicity. 

I would need to meet this Bishop face-to-face before I could judge whether or not the resignation was from his broken heart or from shame or from acknowledgement of his wrong doing.
